I was wary about this book, as I'd read Parades End and not enjoyed it (it's like being trapped in the internal monologue of one of the less interesting characters of Downton Abbey). The Good Soldier is a much more engaging beast. The narrative feels so real to how people experience events, and how their feelings about situations and people change in recollection.
