God the adults in this book infuriated me so goddamned much. Idk if it’s because I’m a teacher or what but I had a whole fucking lot to say about the shit way the father and stepmom were treating the main character of this book. Children and teenagers are astute and very shrewd about figuring out underlying intentions and meanings to actions The fucked up shit the parents did to her in the name of “parenting an disciplining a disrespectful teenager” were glaringly apparent not only to me but to the main character as well.

Even the best friends were goddamn awful albeit less so than the parents because the friends are also teenagers learning to communicate and exist as whole people. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked the non main cast THIS much. Literally I only liked the MC because I wanted to protect her so badly.

The resolution of the book was well done. I would have thrown it out the window if the adults didn’t do some real fucking soul searching. But I also felt like everyone got off the hook a little too easily for how bad I felt things were. Still, it do be like that sometimes and I gotta let go of fictional characters offending me beyond repair.

Great book if you want to hate adults for a good bit.

Last thing: This book reads like someone who went to high school in the late 2000s/ early 2010s but then tossed in some 2020 references bc oops the year is not in fact 2012. I liked it either way.
