The way this author talks about “females” in this book (and others) perpetuates outdated gender stereotypes of catty jealous girls fighting over a boy. Clearly he is out of touch with the world we live in today. The story is OK. A bit clunky. I wouldn’t recommend it to any of the young people I work with but I started reading this series and intend to finish it.

Yet again, Baldacci has scored a win with Vega Jane. In book 3, he kept the action going, boldly moving this story forward. Introducing new characters, unexpected plot twists, and troubling conflict, he helped to solidify much and build anticipation for the inevitable war that must come.

4.5 stars! I like it better than book 2, but still not quite as much as book 1. In this story, Vega Jane continues to figure out a plan for her final battle against the Maladons. She enters the Maladon world and figures out some nasty secrets which solidify her decision to move forward with her course of action. Petra and Delph and Harry 2 continue to stand by her side, even though things get shakey.

This book really really brought to mind a LOT of Harry Potter--especially the final couple books. There were some surprises. Some reunions. Some losses. And some more foreshadowing.

The end was a whammy. And the nugget there about her brother has my mind spinning with ideas for how this is going to play out.

Time to finish it with the next and final book!

This book is the best so far of the series. Can’t wait for the next book to come out.
