funny lighthearted

It's easy to see why Moriarty's engaging epistolary novel has been as popular as it has. Although at times the humor in the book has shades of Louise Rennison, this is more reflective and less slapstick. Still, the characters are just as immediately relatable. As Elizabeth Clarry contends with her own self doubt, family tension between her divorced parents, and the self-obsessed exploits of a flaky best friend readers will root her on all the way. The format ups the suspense nicely as she gradually discovers her estranged father is hiding something and that she might have a secret admirer. The story takes a definitively soap opera-esque turn towards the end but by then Moriarty (and Elizabeth) have drummed up more than enough goodwill in the reader to be forgiven.

The book I always said was my favourite as early teenager. Not read for years but blue cover with lemon & newspaper cutting letters very memorable. Definitely YA not adult literature all in letter form some q harsh. Not brilliant but entertaining to go back to 20 years on.

i love me a silly satirical book. i remember borrowing this book from my school library when i was like 11, i really liked it and still does. it was funny and witty. the writing format (through letters, notes, postcards) was clever and interesting to read. i was so invested in the characters' stories. will definetly read the next book in this series

A relatable book about life changing as a teenage girl. I loved the qwriting style of this book and even though it was my first time reading it, it felt so nostalgic!

This book felt a little young for me when i started reading it, though i suspect that's just reflective of when it's written. It's surprisingly good though. The two main letter writers have such a great and supportive friendship and that's lovely to see

A great coming of age book. Even being well past that stage, I still consider this my favorite book.
