As far as memoirs go, Marsha Linehan's is pretty dry. With her strange, stilted syntax, and idiosyncrasies like exclamation points at unusual places, she would have benefited from a co-author. Also, by my estimation, she used the phrase "get out of hell" about 237 times.
All that being said, it was intriguing reading about how different skills of DBT were inspired and developed.

At times Marsha's experiences read as incredibly naive, and at others incredibly wise. What an amazing story of growth and accomplishment.

Marsha Linehan is truly a remarkable person and her memoir is so inspiring. She is very reflective and though she makes many mistakes, she isn’t afraid to address them and she grew from each one. I highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially those who have or know someone who has experienced mental health issues.

Marsha's story and strength are so inspiring. Parts of this were emotionally difficult to get through, but very worth it. I appreciate her blending in practical and informative elements of DBT for those of us who aren't as familiar with the treatment.
