A vicious, nasty, squirm inducing book that is hard to put down and will absolutely stick with you. Definitely recommended if you like body horror and are comfortable with gruesome depictions of violence. Be warned that there are graphic depictions of animal cruelty and self harm that are very upsetting and will not go down well with everybody. If these things don't deter you it's lean, mean and well worth your time.

Written in a horrific but beautiful prose. The use of language keeps your brain working overdrive to figure out what’s happening. I didn’t put this book down once I’d started it!

Due to personal preference, the book didn’t scare me. It’s certainly gross, awfully descriptive, and tense, but I fear the Big Bad is introduced too soon which dampened any sense of terror I may have felt. Otherwise a book I would recommend any fans of horror in general should read!

Normally, I'd be keeping (and re-reading) any book I rate this highly, however, Nick Cutter's The Troop is an exception; it's too gruesome and descriptive when it comes to wanton animal cruelty. It's incredibly well written and engaging and it definitely does body horror well (something I find hard to find in written works), but I just don't care to re-read accounts of squishy, gross torture of animals and the whiny, teenage narratives of the main characters.

If you like body horror, you'll probably find this is a good/fast read. It's also worth noting that while the characters aren't necessarily likeable, they are not two dimensional and do seem to be complex in the way I would say most pre-teens/teenagers tend to be, which made it more believable.

Wow. The Troop had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. Nick Cutter wrote the characters so perfectly. The story was scary as hell and I put the book down fearing the contagion myself.

Brilliant. One of the best books I've ever read.

So this is the second book i’ve read about worms this year, so that’s fun.

This was so sad, I didn’t expect to feel so connected to the characters by the end, but i was actually heartbroken by Newt’s death in the end, and Max being the only one left but never being able to return to normality was just devastating.

The horror was so effective in this, the descriptions of the boys’ demise was so visceral, and the things that Shelley did to his troop mates made me feel so horrid, he was a great hidden evil character, and I was pretty damn happy he died in the end

Overall I think this is a solid contamination horror book

Kind of disappointed to be honest. Horror without violence against girls or women is extremely rare, so I was happy to pick up this book which targeted only boys and men. But it ended up being pretty boring to me, and not at all as gory and violent as people said it was. Also, the characters are basically NPCs, just archetype (Nerd, bully, sociopath, Jackass etc.) which makes them boring and unrelatable too. I didn't care if they lived or die. I wish this book would have been more depraved and extreme, with people that feel like actual people
