Incredibly visceral and descriptive. Really grosses you out. A bit predictable at times, but a solid horror read.

yuck. this book was foul but did make me anxious and scared at times. contagion and isolation are two timeless scary tropes when done well

Holy shit. This book is HORRIFYING. I found myself queasy and hoping I could close my eyes and skip parts as if it was a movie, which for me means it was a DAMN good horror novel. Not for the weak hearted or those grossed out by body horror.

DNF’d - this is the second book by Nick Cutter I’ve tried and it’s definitely the last. I don’t know why he feels it’s necessary to spend so much time detailing scenes of animal torture and death, but I’m not down for it. It never feels necessary to the plot, more like something he’s working in because he wants to. It feels like the laziest attempt at horror possible, writing something that most people would find upsetting (but isn’t horror, of the definition I’m looking for at least). If animal abuse bothers you, I’d recommend avoiding this author.

Got through this book quite quickly, interesting story with some very dark turns. I thought the ending was a bit reaching. I think the government would have handled things differently there at the end but that’s just me.

This book was just very boring to me. Which sucks cuz it has rave reviews and how disturbing it was and whatnot and it probably is good, but I've had such a busy month that I don't think this book is what I needed right now. It's very slow-paced and not much was happening. And quite frankly, I'm not very fond of the characters. The boys (minus Newton) are obnoxious. And I also don't appreciate the lack of description of characters in this book. There are like 5-6 boys and I honestly can't picture them. All that being said, I'm obviously dnfing this. I think I may come back to it one day though when I actually have some dedicated free time to read it.
