Another cracking story from this author and I enjoyed the shared project of restoring a beautiful old house.

There is an emotional theme though this book and I thought it was done beautifully. I was in tears near the end and my heart just broke. IYKYK

I enjoyed Burke’s hesitation and grumpiness at the beginning and slowly Charlotte wears him down with her patience and care. He realised that she is what he wants and once he’s sure of his heart he then makes choices he thinks are better for Charlotte.

Charlotte is a strong character and I really liked her and I was willing her to get her man. Burke’s proof that he loved Charlotte and wanted more was lovely and was such a romantic way to do it.

A great romance which I listened to and enjoyed the narrators and like all this authors books then you won’t be disappointed by this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Recently forced into retirement, ex NFL star wants to live a quite life alongside his family. But after loosing his best friend to a shock accident, Burke inherits a historic home that needs a full restoration. Alongside the home he also inherits the pretty redhead named charlotte who’s job it is to help renovate and keep the charm of this house alive.

“ Charlotte Cunningham, it seemed, was very skilled at igniting my temper. Probably because I found her attractive. Like Murphy’s Law”

I thought this was going to be a typical enemies to lovers book that I love any ways, but the relationship between these two captured my heart. There are some deeper themes in this book dealing with loss and grief which I felt the author handled with such care. These themes were so true to real life and they really made the storyline so much more passionate.

Charlotte really came out of her shell around Burke with her witty one liners and passion for keeping the charm of the original house. I loved the touch of her meddling Aunty which brought a nice element of humour to the storyline.

“ You’re my partner in this, so no matter how much we bicker, or how much we disagree, I will always have your back”

Burke and charlotte worked so well together on the house renovations and the forced proximity of living together really amped up the tension between the two of them. As much as he tried to deny it, charlotte really got under his skin in a way he struggled to comprehend.

This book brought me so many feelings. I laughed, I shed a tear but overall I was filled with a warmth of love by the end.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review

A beautiful story of grief, family and finding love.

Charlotte and Burke were just too sweet. The banter was great!

Charlotte is a historian that restores old homes to their era. Burke is a former football player that was forced to retire.

After inheriting a house from his friend after his death, Burke, wants nothing to do with it, but can't help restoring it to the way Chris and Amie would have wanted. Little did he know that he would find the attractive, beautiful Charlotte who had no idea who is was or anything about football. Two opposites who were fiercely attracted to each other.

Slow burn at it's best. Karla Sorensen knows how to keep you going until you get to the juicy part lol.

A great read. A sweet romance with tender moments and lots of banter to enjoy.

I am looking forward to the rest of this series.

I really enjoyed this heartfelt, emotional, slow burn romance. Burke has taken care of others, and now when he wanted peace, and a loving family, he was faced with completely someone else's dream, again. His best friend was gone and left him a family home across the country that was in desperate need of repair. He was always the football hero, but when it comes to restoring this historic home, he was at a loss. Throw in the beautiful, passionate, and irritating woman who is there to manage the restoration, and he is way out of his depth. Charlotte loved bringing broken things to life and seeing the joy it brought to others. After a rough start, she and Burke became a team, supporting each others decisions on the restoration. Burke the total opposite of any man she thought she would be attracted to, but he was exactly what she wanted, at least until this job was finished. They were so perfect for each other, as partners in and out of the bedroom. But as the end loomed closer, would they fight to stay together, or let each other go, breaking both their hearts. I loved the banter and the push/pull of emotion between Burke and Charlotte, and their chemistry was palpable. I also loved both of their families who were funny, supportive, and loving, and added so much heart to this delightful story.

Not sure why but I keep finding books about big run down historical houses.

When retired pro footballer Burke Bennett looses his best friend he didn't expect to be left anything, let alone a run down Victorian in North Michigan. Little did Burke know that the house also comes with Charlotte, a fiery red headed historian restoration expert.

Charlotte is a little nerdy, I really liked her character. I had a good chuckle at her powerpoint antics.

This book started so well but unfortunately it just seemed to fall flat.

I think my main problem was I didn't like Burkes character much. He seemed to be such a downer, all his inner dialogue was very negative.

I have been a big fan of Karla Sorensen's books for several years now, and was delighted to read an early copy of The Best Laid Plans, her first for Montlake in a new series, The Best Men. Thank you to Karla and Montlake for the copy, receipt of which does not impact my review.

When I finished The Best Laid Plans, I had to sit in my thoughts about the book for a few days before I felt like I could write my review. It was funny, yet heartbreaking at times; joyful, yet filled with grief; sexy, yet sweet. I loved how Charlotte and Burke complimented each other in the very best of ways.

I highly recommend it to fans of Karla's other works and if your favorite romance tropes include workplace (especially HGTV/construction-type tales), forced proximity, and grumpy/sunshine.
