I loved watching the anime adaptation of this manga (I've seen it twice!) so when I got the opportunity to read this I seized it! I love the depth of characters and their relationships, and enjoy all the parts that didn't quite make it to the screen. I also LOVE the art style and the way they've portrayed the student's artworks within the story!

Would probably rate it higher if it wasn’t a reread

I enjoyed this volume more than I thought I would. I have never been fond of art, I prefer art history, but this volume did a great job of introducing me to the basics without making me fall asleep or put the book down. The artwork/art style was really strong as well and I liked all the characters designs. That being said, the biggest gripe I have is that I feel disconnected from the characters, even our MC. Don't get me wrong, none of them are offensive or poorly written, I just don't hold any emotional connection with any of them. This is definitely a "me" thing, though, so don't hold it against the volume. The other problem is that while I liked how the narrative was structured and paced, I can't imagine myself really investing in the series. Again, this is a "me" thing, but this is about a subject I've never held an interest in and good pacing/ storytelling/ characters can only go so far when I don't like the actual subject of the story.

Overall, though, this was a solid first volume with a lot of promise. If my library continues to get more, I may pick up the subsequent volumes in the future.

As an artist many things in this manga were very relatable, and the characters were great too.
