Not a single person in the early 90s was willing to name a country in the Middle East (lookin at u aladdin) but that’s okay for this one

A fun and whimsical series. I was surprised that the main characters weren't even in the first book, I assumed it was more of a traditional installment in a series. Very fun to have everything come back to the castle though!

A cute and whimsical story! Reads like a fairytale. Classic Diana Wynne Jones! I was surprised by the ending, and enjoyed the little twists.
Some really unnecessary fatshaming early in the book… I guess it was a different time, but still.

This was a great semi-sequel. It follows a new protagonist, Abdullah, and his adventures in the same fantastical world but with more genies and carpets and djinns. Abdullah is a super polite carpet salesman who is also a dreamer. All our old friends from Howl's moving castle reappear on just what page would be a spoiler. This is a very quick read, but also fun and interesting, with plenty middle eastern flavor. It's sorta like Howl's moving castle stuffed in a pita. I am on to the next book, which is supposed to be more of a direct sequel, we shall see.

This was suuuuuuuch a slow start and so not as fun as Howl's Moving Castle, for at least the first half. The latter half picks up and all the pieces tie together at last but the beginning slog made this not a favorite for me at all.
