I ended up just cross reading quite a few pages in the middle of it because it couldn't keep my attention, but the main character is kinda sweet and it wasn't as Aladdin-esque as I feared it was going to be so that was a plus.

Not as good as the first book, but an enjoyable enough read if you can read past the more... uncomfortable... ideas. The fatphobia was a bit too prevelant, did not enjoy that.  Also, some very weird stereotyped portrayals of middle eastern cultures and a lot of weird misogyny both from the setting and side characters AND the protagonist.

I loved seeing the old characters coming back and seeing how their lives progressed after the ending of Howl's Moving Castle, but the new characters introduced in this one are honestly kind of unlikable, including the protagonist, especially the protagonist. I was reading for the cats tbh.
