I read this book in a day. It is so engaging from the get go. I think my favorite thing about this book, besides the compelling plot (though loosely held together at some points, it is fantastic) is the lack of descriptions when it comes to characters. K, at no point, gets pronouns or physical descriptions. In my head, K was a trans man with brown hair and tired brown eyes. Chloe was fat and tall, with long blonde hair and thick coal eyeliner. Don’t ask me why. They could be anything or anyone. But in my head, this is who they are. And I think that’s what part of the allure of this book is. This game could be happening to anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Another thing I appreciated about the book was how concepts were explained. I love science, but I genuinely don’t really know how physics works. I know nothing about Quantum Theory or String Theory or any of the theories that this book presented. But I did appreciate how Terry explained the base concepts without feeling preachy or making the reader feel stupid.
The ending was a bit of a flop for me. I also was able to guess what was happening about halfway through the book, and I wish that there was a bit more to it or that my idea of what was happening was actually a red herring. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I will absolutely be recommending it to my friends who read.
