Let me start by saying, I loved the first 5 KGI stories. I thought they were a great balance of action and romance. The last 3 - 4 books, however, have just been getting progressively worse. I was at least able to finish Forged in Steele and After the Storm. For When Day Breaks, I couldn't even get 1/2 of a way through it. This book was just terrible. I could not connect with either of the main characters and the love story was so lacking. it was basically,
Spoiler Hi nice to meet you, I'm in love with you, whats your name? Don't love me I have a scar on my face. Lets sleep in the same hotel room. There was no finesse or mystery or desire. I just felt jipped with this book. I was expecting more from Swanny's story and this was such a disappointment, much like Van's and Steele's.

This series had so much potential and I still might try to read the next book to see if it's like the first 5. Maya Banks, WHAT HAPPENED!?

It was sooooooo dissapointing!!! I was expecting so much of Swanny :( I almost cry of boring... It didn't ring any bell, it didn't made me goosebumps either! I was definitely expecting more action, fight... more... It was so simple.
I do expect that Joe's book is more than that... And if Skylar and Edge end up together it will be so obvious that I thik that I going to stab myself with a sharp tool :c

I am all for insta attraction and later love, but instalove not as much. Given this, I should not have read the book at all. I also think I like a cockier H because I didn't mind hearing about the scars for a little while, but it got old. If he was so upset by them, then as he said he could have done, he should have had the surgery to fix um. He was painted as giving up essentially, and then Eden was staying as strong as he was when he was captured... didn't add up. I also didn't see how she could know he was so special that she wanted to
Spoiler lose her vcard to him over any other previous man
just by looking at him across the room. This was the firs KGI I have read and I figure if I am not all about instalove, I might steer clear of others... that's on me.

I wanted to love this but I ended up with a like. Synopsis sounded great but didn't quite execute. I felt like Swanny was a wimpy alpha male, really hung up on a scar he could have fixed with plastic surgery but didn't because he wanted a reminder. I almost quit the book when Eden and Swanny conversed about forty pages about how she wanted him but he didn't think he was good enough. So not the authors best and not her worst. Overall entertainment was three stars.

Scarred Swanny meets his combat brother's little sister, super model and "Most Beautiful Woman in the World" Eden while he is on the job as part of her protection team. Within 24 hours, she knows he is a wonderful person and wants to see where this is going with him and he is in touch with his alpha male insecurities.

While most fiction requires some suspension of belief, this one was more than I could do. The site also took up room telling the reader 3 times how good a person Even is, how Swanky still suffers from his combat captivity, and the details of an open gone wrong that led to Eden needing protection in the first place. I, personally, enjoy more of the show - don't- tell types of stories.

Okay, so I definitely kind of love Swanny. Just wanna squish him up in a big hug...

I liked this one; definitely an improvement on the last one, which I was somewhat disappointed with. While I'm finding there to be less and less badass action in this series as it goes on, the characters more than make up for it.

I do wish there'd been a bit more of the other Kelly's... and certainly (it goes without saying) more Steele too. Overall another entertaining, sexy, wish-they-were-real summer read. Can't wait for the next one!

So this was finally Swanny's story. He got tortured with Nathan and was left with some pretty heavy scarring, both emotionally and physically. When he meets famous, model Eden Sinclair, he finds that he's attracted to her, but more boggling, she's attracted to him. It takes him a lot of time to get over the idea that she actually wants him.

Overall pretty good. I would call it a sweet romance. It was a little less dominating man than usual for this series, and just overall more kind and heartfelt. I thought it was a bit shallower than it could've been. There was a bit too much time taken to revisit what has happened previously in the series (even though it didn't have enough bearing on this story to warrant the excessive exposition) and also it became really redundant about Swanny's inner dialogue. There are only so many times you can revisit his insecurities without presenting something new before it gets tiring. I ended up skimming large portions of the first half, which was disappointing, because that doesn't happen that often with this author.

Swanny and Eden were also a bit too perfect of a couple and it was more mushy-ness of their romance had me on the verge of gagging it was so sweet. The only conflicts for them were their insecurities and the threat hanging over Eden's head. Other than that they were ready to ride off into the sunset after a day or two.

There were a few weak points in the plot that seemed more contrived for the author's benefit than they were actually believable. I won't mention them for the sake of spoilers but I just felt some of the characters' actions weren't entirely true to their personalities.

So this was a bit weak than what I'm used to seeing out of Maya Banks, so hopefully things get better in the upcoming novels. I still plan to read more. One slacking story won't completely negate the previous ten that were good.

This was par for KGI, but the first 75% of the story was very fru fru and sappy. So much mushy stuff to then have all the crazy bad stuff happen in such a small amount of time. It was almost too much love and not enough action, I was starting to give up hope. I'm glad Swaney got his story.

Another terrific addition to the KGI series. Swanny makes for a sexy, flawed alpha hero while Eden is the heroine whose not just a pretty face despite being a model. Loved the chemistry between the characters and the well-paced action. It's going to be hard to say goodbye to this series when the time comes.
