Dark fantasy is usually not my go to genre, I've always been blown away when I read them and this was certainly no exception. You can really see the thought and dedication put into the book in the story. I'm not usually blown away by Indie books but I really enjoyed this one.

I love it when books centre on one main character as we really see their stories, ethics and morals develop and grow. Shaw starts off the story with the single mindset of vengeance for his family's death but throughout the book, he starts to realise that it is simply much more than revenge.

The plot was an absolute roller coaster ride, I was constantly on the edge of my seat and there was not a dull moment. It was one of those books where you really need to know what happens but also you don't want the book to end...yeah I really need book 2.

Something I didn't enjoy was the layout of the pdf file, wasn't much of a fan of the brackets. It just interrupted the flow of the words. Few inconsistencies here and there but that was all the flaws I could point out.

This is your classic good vs evil driven plot, executed to an extremely high standard.

*Note before I start, I did receive this book in exchange for an honest review all the words herein are my own and no matter how I come into possession of a book I will only ever give my honest opinion.

Overview:
I came across this book on Instagram when one of the writers I follow was posting about his current reads. I immediately fell in love with the cover then went and looked up what the book was about. I immediately added it to my Want To Read shelf on Goodreads because the synopsis sold me. I commented on the Instagram post that I needed to read this book and the author David Viergutz messaged me and offered me the book.

This book is jammed packed with action starting with page one and I was hooked from that point forward. The truth is I was sad when I finished the book because I didn’t have any more story to read… until the next book in the series is ready… He already knows but DAVID I NEED BOOK TWO lol.

You can tell the amount of love and dedication the author put into building the story. Mark my words this is an author that’s going to have an amazing career and I look forward to seeing what he puts out next.

I highly recommend this book to any and everyone who loves fantasy especially dark fantasy.

Worldbuilding:
This world is so tangible I love it. He has built a fully fleshed out world to the point where you can hear the floorboards creak underfoot as the characters ascend the old church. His beautiful worldbuilding doesn’t end in the human realm it extends to a place that could easily be nothing because essentially the Thin Line is nothing it a place where nothing and everything exists. Its a place where to ensure your survival you must be careful to not look up to the sky or down to the ground.

There is a fine line that descriptive writers must walk that lies between overly detailed infodumps and the perfect amount of descriptive tangibility and I think David knows when to keep going and when to stop.

Characters:
The characters in this book are AMAZING. In this world there really isn’t anyone that is truly good thought there are some okay one who is truly evil. There are humans and demons and some combination of the two throughout the story. As you read you come to route for or even love specific characters even the demons, well one in particular.

All the characters are layered so much so that even once you believe you have them all figured out you find another piece of the puzzle that you had no idea was missing.
