Update 7/5/23: I was rough on this one when I first read and reviewed it, but I think it def. had to do with my mood and expectations of what I wanted from this. I did like the romance (just really was desperate for more worldbuilding), and the ending of the book did a great job with SO MUCH FEELS too, so I'm bumping this up. I said I wasn't really interested in the second book in my original review, but I actually am now -- esp. as I feel it would deliver on things I wanted from this book.

okay this book had me HOOKED, breezed through the whole thing in less than 24 hours!! it was an anticipated read for me even though i knew almost nothing about what the book was about. anyway, the romance really spoke to me (not enough hatred in the beginning for an enemies to lovers at all, or even a rivals to lovers honestly [so that was misleading],, BUT there was the perfect amount of pining) - the only reason this isn't a 5 star book is that genuinely i felt like other than the magic typewriters, there was no need for the elaborate background of all the drama with the gods and i tuned most of it out (i think it'll be more important in book 2, but in this book it felt unnecessary)

tbh- this falls kind of into the problem i had with the other rebecca ross book i read (a river enchanted) which is that it genuinely could have been a stand-alone if you took out the little cliffhanger at the end (although it would take out more pining so i GUESS it's fine? check back in when i finish the second book in both duologies and i'll let you know if this opinion changes)

Mainly romance taking place in a fantasy setting until the last 10ish percent. Then, I believe, you get into more fantasy/action. Ends on a cliffhanger. Bummed I'm not moving straight to the second book.
