Wow this is FAST and GOOD. I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. Now that's what I call science fiction!!
The best recommendation I can give is that Andy Weir doesn't chintz you on the science, but he also does a fantastic job of explaining what is happening so you don't get bogged down. It's not technobabble, and its not yada-yada on the details.
I can't tell you how many times I muttered "oh no. He's gonna die". I cornered my husband and read him some passages. Just a really great read!
Language is a bit strong (although very much I would use the same), so caution in recommending to children.

I do not get the hype surrounding this book. Read about half way before quitting. I found the main character just annoying. Writing was not spectacular. Meh.

Pretty good book!! I watched the movie first, so I was kind of surprised that Beck, not Lewis, was the person that went out on the tether to save Watney. Made me kind of annoyed that Beck, in the movie, was kind of shoved into the background.
I loved Mark's positivity, even though he planned for every outcome, even his death. It's slightly unrealistic how positive he was, but inspiring all the same.
