I understand there's a deeper message behind this book, dealing with the brutality of capitalism and how there is no limit to the cruelty inflicted by capitalism but spoken through the eyes of a cannibalistic society. That said, this book was still underwhelming and did not grasp this central theme to the best capability I think it could have. Most of the book felt like brutality and gore simply for the sake of shock factor. I understand some people see the mundane descriptions of the main character going through his day to day as a way to put us in his mind of how dissociated he is from the reality of his world. However, I don't know, I think I would have liked more introspection either on his end or of just the societal end. How was the transition into this 'new world'? Who are the scavengers? Were there revolts against this or current actions against it? What happened to vegetarians and vegans lol? Overall, I was not impressed. I do like the central theme and idea behind it, just wish it was better executed.

I’m so nauseous after reading this but it was so good. So upsetting. So timely tbh
Graphic: Torture, Grief, Cannibalism
I can’t believe what I read—it’s bizarre and brilliantly written. I’m shocked by how the vicious characters and the horrifying reality portrayed in the book serve as powerful metaphors for the worst humanity is capable of. I hope you have the stomach to read it.

One of the most disturbing books that I have read in a long while. A book that does straddles science fiction and horror, and asks you serious questions, about meat eating and the nature of humanity. It is a serious achievment of a novel, its world creation is remarkable. However it can leave the plot somewhat lacking. Also as much I was impressed by it - the disgust engendered means I am not sure whether I would want to read it again
