I had such a hard time putting this down. Not recommended for those who are squeamish in any way. I found the characters to all be morally grey, including the narrator, which I think helps you take in the society that they have built. I will say, I didn't predict the ending and the book has been on my mind at least once a week since I've finished it.
I plan to read the original Spanish version in the future to see how the language changes how I feel about what they are describing.

This was my first step into horror literature, and it was a phenomenal introduction. A grotesque exploration of dehumanization, factory farming, capitalism, and - above all - the power of words. I cannot say I would recommend this book to just anyone, but if you are interested in exploring horror, I think this is an excellent place to begin.
