This was my first step into horror literature, and it was a phenomenal introduction. A grotesque exploration of dehumanization, factory farming, capitalism, and - above all - the power of words. I cannot say I would recommend this book to just anyone, but if you are interested in exploring horror, I think this is an excellent place to begin.

This book messed me up. Like I still can’t stop thinking about it. The plot alone is such a wild apocalyptic nightmare and then the ending - brutal.

This book is a torment to read. The world of legalized cannibalism is laid out in excruciating detail and doesn't hold back, even when I wish it would. As someone who designs the beef cutting guides for butchers, yowza - the descriptions are very accurate to beef processing. This may be what finally makes me go vegetarian.
The only problem I have with it, is that there's no break from the gore/sadness, you can't even root for the main character. Somehow leaves you with more hopelessness than when you started!

This is the first book I’ve read to actually make me flinch because of its grotesque content but at the same time I could not look away??
