This book was… something. A dystopian society where humans resort to the factory farming of other humans. Whilst it relied a lot on shock value and became a little repetitive when it came to proving its’ point (beating a dead horse/head), I ate it up (puns intended)

Writing was amazing, but I am so disturbed. The ending? I just felt bamboozled, hoodwinked if you will

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and every time I thought I knew where it was going it hit a hard left
An insane ride

This book's biggest flaw was that it was too short.
And by this I don't mean that I wished it was longer, but that it definitely needed to dig a little deeper in many different occasions.
Although the concept, worldbuilding and characters are very solid and form a good, stable basis for the story the book tells; many times it felt like a sequence of people and places that we meet and then leave quickly after, never to be mentioned again. I would have loved to know more about the life of the people after the Transition, not by hearing about it in passing conversations between the characters, but through their eyes.
Also I have to point out that many of the people Marcos works and is surrounded by, feel a bit like the caricature of a villain from a children's book. They do feel overly semplified and kind of clichè at times, in the way they act, speak and interact with others. Dialogues specifically felt a bit flat and not very introspective, which was something I was looking forward to, especially for a story that challenges ethics this much.
The ending was perfect, and choosing any other option would have probably made zero sense. I still feel like it was a bit rushed, everything happened so fast and got wrapped up in three pages more or less. I would have loved to see more build up and suspense, but all in all I did admittedly enjoy it, even if a few things felt off.
All things considered, it did keep me hooked from start to finish and it was enjoyable for the most part. I have conflicting thoughts, not about the story or the morality of any of the characters, but purely from a technical point of view; the writing constantly sparked questions about style, composition and pacing, which I still enjoyed, and made me dwell on what makes a good story.
