I bought this book at the beginning of the pandemic, but I couldn't read it then. I picked it up again 2 years later, when I learned my mom had COVID and we all had to quarantine together. If you expect a dystopic/scifi-y read, it's not that book . But if, like me, you're in need of a book that make you feel seen and understood, that words beautifully all the mixed feelings (sadness, panic, anxiety, anger, hopelessness, and so on) we face during a now 2 years long pandemic, this is it. The characters are flawed, and sometimes I got pissed by their panic thinking and their egoism, but ultimately what we have is a poetic, humble and profoundly human story about lives during such a traumatic event. It made me cry, it made me anxious by how close to reality it was, but I finished this book feeling reassured and hopeful.
