I'm having trouble rating this book. I was really hoping to love it because it was my first Neil Gaiman book, but the first half was so slow, and I was having such a hard time getting through it. The second half was much better, but I don't think it made up for it. I'm not sure if I didn't like Neil Gaiman's style or if it was this book specifically, I'll have to read another one to see!

If you like Neil Gaiman you will love this, if you've never read his books you'll love it and then read all his other books, if you don't like him you are incorrect.
Moderate: Torture, Murder, and Violence

I started reading this a very long time ago and finally finished reading it over vacation. It is not my favorite Neil Gaiman book, but I enjoyed the creativity and world building within once I finally got started. Maybe not all, but I think many, can relate to Richard Mayhew's fear of the unknown and of taking risks. It's easy to fall in to a familiar pattern in life. I like that Neil (Mr. Gaiman?) had Richard hedge his bets and return to his normal life despite all of his adventures and see that it was no longer satisfying. Though Richard can be seen as weak and definitely the unlikely hero, I appreciated how flawed and unlikeable he was for large portions of the novel. I would definitely read this again.
