Baffling, I can't really explain the draw of this book. But I was mesmerized from start to finish.

I thought this would be a quick 2-3 day read, but I was gravely mistaken. The book takes you on a rather unusual coming of age story at the end of which you are not quite sure what happened.
There are some very nice Eastern European subtle and not so subtle cultural themes woven in the story which made it particularly enjoyable.
When I picked it up I expected a stand alone, but it appears there are further books to read and I am definitely on board to come back some day.

I would have liked this more if it was shorter. By the end I had lost interest.

I’m not sure what I think of this. It was a lot to wrap my head around, and at times I would’ve been okay with not picking it back up. I wish I could say I’m happy I stuck with it but I don’t know if I am. I did like parts of it. But it was also a chore to read without any chapter breaks.

Definitely a masterful conveyance of a certain mood, I’m just not sure I personally care for it. Gregor Samsa goes to Hogwarts is probably the best description I have for it. Very unique combination of a banal horror and numinous optimism?

Vita Nostra is a dark and deeply provocative novel about psychological and metaphysical transformation that defies explanation even after you get to the end.

It is so compelling to read, with endlessly twisting turns that loop back as often as they split off or move forward. I wouldn't necessarily be able to explain it all to someone, but I'm confident it will keep my internal dialogue going for a long time.
