Amazon First Read book.
This is not a genre I typically gravitate to — rom-com, chick lit. However, I liked the idea of the book and I enjoyed the characters. Poppy, the main protagonist, is a ferocious mom determined to ensure her baby cub doesn’t suffer because of her misfortunes. Unfortunately, she does not make the wisest choices and decisions.
I thought the book was over-written. Too many details were added that didn’t enhance the story, or move it along. It seemed unfocused at times and moved between time periods to characters without reason.
Three stars because there were some aspects I enjoyed — Poppy finding her inner self, becoming confident, and gaining the respect of others. Poppy’s relationship with Allen was fun and enjoyable. And, of course, Kevin, the dog, who provided a lovable aspect to the book.
