This book was cute. I wanted a surface level romance and I got it… except for the TWO times the MC was almost assaulted????

I actually loved the third act breakup but hated how the MMC basically had a personality shift for it.

There were…a lot of hashtags.

This was the first in a series that follows romances in the NFL. I was very excited to read this as I have never read a sports romance before. This was an engaging first novel in the series that had a ton of laugh out loud humor and sweet moments, but you could definitely tell this was a debut novel. This follows our heroine Marlee who finds out her pro football player boyfriend of 10+ years has been cheating on her. She swears never to date another football player, but the team's new quarterback Gavin just might change her mind. I loved Marlee as our heroine. She was smart, driven, and very funny. Gavin was also a sweetheart, if a little one note. The plot moved along nicely with a lot of non-romance related events that dealt with important issue, such as harassment and assault. However, the plot took a turn in the last 50 pages that didn't really make sense because it was not true to the characters. Gavin, who was understanding and supportive the whole book, took a complete 180. Then, Marlee declared she would never do something, only to find out she did exactly that a few months later. A lot of the events in the novel also dealt with girl hate, and I know Alexa Martin was inspired to write these novels based on her own experiences as an NFL wife, and if this is the type of petty and vicious behavior she had to deal with, it is just awful. Finally, Martin uses hashtags in the novel, and at first they were funny and quirky, but they got old extremely fast. There was one on almost every page, and it got to the point where I would just cringe seeing them. I am planning on continuing on with the series as Martin has an interesting romance series and compelling characters.
