Read in July 2011:
Someone described the Outlander series as a "guilty pleasure". I couldn't say it better than that. Kinda trashy, kinda sexy ... all wrapped into a very readable historical Scottish tale.
Reread in August 2015: in preparation for season 2 of Outlander

Finally! FINALLY!
This book took me ages, but je ne regrette rien, rien!
Even though I read it for more than a month, this was so well written and genuinly entertaining that it seemed as if I had never stopped each time I started reading it after a long pause. Characters are amazing, you cannot but love them. The plot is complex but still enjoyable, even though it lacked some spark from the first book. The Setting is in France and Scottland, and it cannot get any better than that in my opinion. The author so accurately portraied spirit of the time, that I somehow started to believe that I'm plotting in Versailles wearing a beautiful dress while holding Jamies's hand.Furthermore, the writing style is superb, and somehow never boring, even when they are talking about politics.
So onto the characters. Jamie is as perfect as it was in the first book, and do I dare to say even more so. He truly is one of the most amazing male protagonist, his genuineness makes me believe that there might be good in this world. The last thing he did left me heartbroken because it was so typical of Jamie to do something like that. Claire is just kickass, amazing in every way, smart and capable young woman who know what she wants and is not afraid to acheive it. But she is nevertheless ready to sacrifice herself to help the people who now have become her friends and family, and I admire her for that.
All in all, I liked it very much and I can't wait to start reading Voyager.
