My second time reading Salinger was similar to the first: He sneakily gets me to relate to a cynical main character, only to be called out and humbled by a wise but flawed mentor through a series of quippy monologues. (I’m also told to grow up and have a little hope, godammit!) A pretty specific formula, but it did the trick both times.

I don’t think I was in the right headspace to enjoy this novel but I will definitely try again! could definitely empathize with fannys unhinged rants.

I was so irritated while reading this of the white, ivy league dating scene and its petty complaints. And then afterwards, for over a year now, I've found myself constantly returning to the question of poor goddamn Yorick and what kind of skull I want when I'm dead.
