Nina LaCour knows how to write emotionally damaged characters so well. I know that’s a weird statement but her character development through childhood trauma is extremely raw. She really shines a light on the emotions that can accompany trauma and how it shapes adult interactions later in life. Sara fosters’ childhood was the best part of this book because it felt soooo real. I knocked off a star purely because I’m not sure I loved how it ended. It was very much a read between the lines and I wanted it said on the paper

The most sensorally rich prose I have read in a long time. It feels like you could swim in this story, take a bite out of it, like you're breathing in forest air for the first time in a while. So tender and captivating, with soft, sore ruminations on the most important relationships in our lives. Read this book!

Decided 90% in that I don’t like them together but I still enjoyed the book. A great hard to put down.

The different attachment styles were so apparent here and in a way that gave me bad vibes at the end. Em leaving that voicemail? Ew! I’m sorry! Never do that! Never make someone else’s grief about yourself like that!

I liked this book! It did start out with some heavy hitter plot points but I think the author did a decent job on touching on hard topics in a sensitive way. I especially liked how it didn’t feel like “just a queer love story.” What I enjoyed the most was getting to know the two main women in this story as individuals.
