I'm about to say something blasphemous... I didn't love Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
There. I said it. It is what it is. I love sci-fi, and humour, and humourous sci-fi... but, HHG didn't really do it for me. I didn't exactly dislike the book, I would say it was "okay", but it gets only a 5/10 from me.
I found the humour to be a little bit too silly, and because of the silliness I couldn't really keep myself too interested in the story itself, It felt like there were no stakes in the story at all, because it was all a constant joke to the characters. So, like... it didn't really matter what happened at all.
When I did get engrossed (because some parts of the story were gripping and the concepts interesting), I would soon be pulled back out of the story by some new absurdity which felt like the forced-hilarity of the morning radio DJs you hear on your way to work in the car at 7am.
In the words of Peter Griffon, I feel "it insists upon itself". (although Peter was referencing his dislike for The Godfather - an opinion I don't share).

Think I needed a break from audiobooks, otherwise this could’ve been 4*. Stephen Fry made it feel like I was listening to an episode of Doctor Who. Can’t really fault it.
