This was wonderful. The only thing that really bothered me was how stereotypically opposite the two girls were to each other in the beginning, and how often it was referred to. Things got better as the novel progressed, but ugh.

Very Ursu. You have a great message for girls told through a realistic fiction style story with a dose of magic thrown in. I just think the message was a bit heavy handed and the magic seemed thrown in there for the metaphor but did not make sense with actual story. Like Ursu had all these ideas for pieces of a story and the threw them together. I did love the sisters and their relationship to each other and those around them. I think that was the stronger aspect of the story. Would love to have my mother-daughter book club read it and see what they say.

Identical twin sisters, crows, weird antique shops, and Minneapolis. I mean, what’s not to like here. I loved a lot about this - the way in which fairy tales are subtly woven in, the way being so close to one character obscures what is really happening, the girl power. Now I will say that some of it seemed contrived - what library offers an every day after school program for just a few kids? And Iris was not always easy to like. However, when she was beginning to spiral into not knowing how to cope with the world, I cried and really wished I could have given her a hug

Such a good story about sibling relationships, what it means to save someone, and saving yourself in the process--- with a twist of magic.

I loved this one. I liked how it explored the values of sisterhood and friendship, and talked to middle grade readers in a mature way without talking down to them or assuming they would not understand. The mystery was intriguing to me, one I didn't figure out until the end, and I really liked how this book also gave the reader pop culture references such as Marvel characters and Harry Potter references. I was also pleasantly surprised that this book explored different feminist themes in a mature but easy to understand manner. Dope story. Definitely recommend 😁✌🏻

I adored this book—a parable about Sisterhood with a capital S, but also a little creepy/atmospheric and paced well enough to fly. Ordinarily creepy is not my cup of tea, but in this novel, it worked. In part, that's because Ursu is a master of voice, and with character front and center like that, the creepy wasn't too creepy. The twin girls at the center of the novel are so utterly distinct that it becomes impossible to see them as interchangeably as the world does, though the title points us back to that tension with a little pun--which girl is it, exactly, who's lost? And how?
I’d say it’s kind of the middle grade version of the scene in ENDGAME when.

I write this fully realizing that book perfection is in the eye of the reader. So what. Don’t at me. This book is perfection. It is honorable. It is spectacular in its prose, its characters, its story, and ITS MESSAGES.
THE LOST GIRL has found me. It has helped make me whole again. It has given me a deeper perspective in who I am and what I can do with my voice, with my friends, FOR my friends. EVERY CHILD needs these kinds of messages.
THE LOST GIRL is distinguished. It needs to be in the hands of every MG & YA reader in this country for all time, but especially at this moment. It is perfection in a beautiful binding.

A book about twins that actually gets to the heart of what it is like to be a twin. Lovely.
