This a complex existential and body horror novel. Good but not my cup of tea for fun. I may come back and put more thoughts down here, I may just discuss it with my book club on Monday.

When I was at secondary school in the late 80s this was one of those books everyone talked about. I think it actually took until I almost left for me to read it though, and I thought it was fantastic.
It still stands up today although it's a lot darker than I remembered!

I've never read Iain Banks before so I wasn't sure what I was going to be in for... And man, it didn't disappoint.
It was hard to read at times and the ending threw me for a loop but I enjoyed it all the same.

Why would someone write this? My favourite parts were Eric on the phone, the phone ringing had me just as excited as Frank.

As an animal lover, this was incredibly disturbing. It felt like I was watching the adolescence of a serial killer with no way to intervene

Good. Brutal. Not amazing, but worth reading. For fans of American Psycho and His Bloody Project, though not as good as either. 3.5 stars.
