This was really obvious that it was Silvera's first book. A lot of the characters and their dialogue was really unrealistic, there were some paragraphs where it felt like information was missing.
I liked the concept, but I felt like it was not executed very well.

This is probably my least favorite of Adam Silvera's (that I've read) but it is still phenomenal. The first 2/3 dragged a bit, to the point where if I wasn't so familiar with his endings I probably wouldn't have finished reading it. I didn't love any of the characters. There's so much introspection that the plot stagnates in a handful of spots. But I'm so glad I pushed through. The twist hit me hard, and the commentary is excellent. It's easy to forget that this is technically scifi because the themes on conversion, the closet, and procrastinated identity are so realistic. It's heartbreaking, but there's a faintly hopeful note at the very, very end.

I think this book was great. Aaron was such a sincere character. Thomas was fascinating. It's no wonder they were drawn to each other.

Genevieve was a star for sticking by Aaron through it all. She is correct in that she should not have maintained a relationship with him, but she was a good friend sticking with him through it all.

The neighborhood was such a character for the first half of the book. Learning their games and stories was a gift of storytelling. But it had to come to an end. Aaron leaving his childhood friends behind for Thomas seemed natural as he progressed forward in his life.

Aaron falling for Thomas and wanting this part of him to be erased was heartbreaking. Even more devastating is learning that Aaron has done the procedure before and he was not able to erase being gay. Worse, Aaron now has a disorder and cannot make new memories. He is lost in the past he tried to forget for the rest of his life.

I feel like this is a book I will revisit in the future. To make me more happy than not.
