Love in the City

This is a great novel, I was smiling for almost all the book and could not put it down!

I felt like Alex was a relatable 30-year-old woman (being 30 myself, I could strongly identify), with all the insecurities that include and strong enough to move to a new country and work on her dreams.
Michael is the mature, handsome, single parent hero that I love in romance books. He started being a grumpy guy but then becomes so much more.
Love the chemistry and heat that they had and the relationship that they built.

I loved experiencing all the lovely places in NYC through Alex's new eyes and the way the city was portraited.

Also, the supporting characters were awesome, love the friendship that Alex constructed with Geoff and Cat, especially the support system they have made for her by the end.

Can't wait to read future books by Jen Morris, next one coming out super soon!!

Alex is so relatable! Awkward, hesitant, but oh-so-eager to make her dreams a reality. The little touches of humor included in her internal monologues are really what made me love this book so much.

And Michael? Oh, yes please. He's standoffish in the beginning, but there's a really sweet layer underneath that wall he has up.

Fantastic read!

I really wanted to like this novel more. It could have a been a great story of falling in love with New York, friendship, and finding the love of your life. I feel like if there was more detail and character development it would have been great! The relationship moved along so fast that I feel like I didn’t get to know the characters.

I really really enjoyed reading this! I know I'm normally a quick reader as it is but I absolutely flew through this book and that's because of how good the story and writing is. I loved the character of Alex, and Michael for that matter as well. Coming up to the big 30 is always seen as a bit of a turning point and big moment in your life and when Alex decides to yet off to New York after being ditched by her boyfriend on her birthday you know the adventure is just beginning.

The pace of the book was so good and there wasn't ever a dull moment, you just didn't want to put it down! Now yes, there is swearing in it but I would say it's more conversational swearing so it didn't bother me at all and I have to say I quite enjoyed the raunchy scenes. It was definitely a rather heated book at times but it wasn't off-putting in the slightest.

I absolutely loved that it was set in New York and it gave me vibes of Lindsey Kelk's I Heart series (which is my fave btw). There's even mentions of Christmas which was an extra nice surprise as I really didn't see that coming, and yes, disclaimer.. the Rockerfeller tree is mentioned! I mean Christmas in New York just wouldn't exist without that tree and the ice skating rink surely...

Now there is a rather juicy twist in this which was really well placed, I kinda got the sense that something wasn't quite right and something was going to happen but I guessed completely the wrong person. I really loved this and felt it gave an extra dynamic to the book, plus it really helped to build up the tension of the 'will they, won't they' question which I loved.

Love in the City is a romance that you will want to read in one sitting! This book follows Alex, a New Zealander who moved to NYC to pursue her dream of writing. There, she has a not-so meet cute with her neighbor and single dad, Michael. This highly entertaining novel follows Alex as she fails and succeeds at work, makes friends, and finds love thousands of miles away from home. I loved this one and can't wait to start the next!

I think this book started out really strong for me. It was cute, and funny, and a sexy single day. While most of Alex's family were infuriating, I did like her relationship with her sister, she didn't steer her wrong, with starting a new adventure in New York.

I loved the backdrop of the bookstore, and all the elements of someone like me who loves books. Michael is also a single dad, and his son is more of a cameo but you can tell he is a good dad.

The only drawback I had with this story, and I believe it is just my personal preference, but this was a really slow burn. Also Michael was to the extreme polite in "wanting to do it right" that was a little irksome. I think I would have liked a little more steam on this one.

The secondary characters were solid, and I loved the backdrop of New York city. I really felt I was in the city.

I loved this book! It was the perfect combination of love, humor and steam.

Alex was relatable; she had flaws and self-doubt. She’s quirky and and is comfortably her own person. Plus, I love a woman who cusses (Er, swears?)

Michael was the perfect bearded hero. He truly wins you over from the start.

Jen’s writing is captivating and the dialogue is perfect. The side characters were the best. I hope we get to read Geoff’s story!

This is the perfect book if you’re looking for a steamy read!
