A bizarre and surprisingly wholesome read that explores grief with tenderness, humour and an egg. This is the kind of book that would make a wonderfully odd and utterly endearing movie.

really good discussion of greif and the rage and guilt that comes with it. I loved the typeset and the way text was manipulated to make the book visually interesting. The narrative function of the memory blanks that reveal the story later was a great way to discuss emotional supression. RIP Egg u will be missed.

oh...my...god
i can't even explain the feelings this book made me feel.
Such a unique story that i think a lot of people should read at any age.
Such a great story about humans and how they handle different emotions and difficulties and it leaves you feeling like you've been sucker punched in the chest and have lost the wind out of you but also fills your heart with hope and love.
Again, I can't explain it but this book is very different in the way it made me feel. I love sad, emotional books and i read them a lot but this book just hit different.
AND THIS IS A DEBUT NOVEL???? I can't wait to read more books from this author if he writes more, i'm an instant fan of his after the first couple pages of this novel.

I've rounded down as this is probably a 3.5*
I am very fortunate not to have experienced any real loss in my life yet. Perhaps it's this that left me feeling cold early on. I can't relate to this level of emotional breakdown.
The egg idea was cute, but Addy just annoyed me for a good portion of this. The very interiority of his grief meant that I couldn't really get into it. I enjoyed it more as it went on, and the concept was good - the egg served very much as a metaphor for the walls Addy was erecting around himself - and the breaking down of his barriers had me turning pages but I felt like it had potential to be more than it was.
