The start of the book was boring and then I forgot about it xD I need to give it another shot

Everyone is traumatized and now kinda turning into vengeful fascists. Peeta thankfully always thought child murder is not so great tho so that’s why he gets the edge over Gale.

Oof, Mockingjay really takes grim realism to heart.
Katniss, increasingly despairing over her lack of choice over anything in her life, continues to be used and manipulated as her world (and the arena) collapses around her. Her spiral into depression and PTSD makes the book slow, difficult, and sometimes even a little boring to read, but is utterly understandable. The capture and torture of Peeta is horrific - he’s far too sweet for anything like that and his struggles as he strives to return to even a semblance of normality are heartbreaking. These two have never had it easy, but the bleak reality of war between two, at best, morally grey parties almost makes you long for the endearing moments they’d occasionally find together in the Games. We also suffer some truly heartbreaking deaths, but are rewarded with some classic Katniss moments (her speech in District 8, a certain execution) and a bittersweet ending that’s really the best ending scenario anyone living through Panem could have hoped for.
