An outstanding finale to the Hunger Games trilogy! This was the second time I'd read The Hunger Games books, and first time in about 15 years, and they were all still very enjoyable!

This book was not what I expected for the end of the series, and I didn't really love some of the events. I think the overall message is really strong though and I didn't fully get it when I was young and reading this for the first time
9/2025 – its been ages since i've read mockingjay not just watched it and i did NOT remember finnick's death to be like that and it had me bawling all over again
every time i reread this series details and nuances spring to me that i've picked up on previous reads but never really been able to articulate and which make me think any critique i see of the series must!!! have missed them!!! completely!!! like take people saying that katniss wouldnever vote yes for the symbolic hunger games - i feel like it's so clear that when coin propositions this katniss realises that she is just the next snow and the horrors will never end and like she says to gale, you can keep coming up with excuses to send children to their death. so the only way to stop it is to stop / kill coin. but her only chance to do that is getting her weapons back which she will only get to execute snow, and for coin to agree to that she has to appear to be on coin's side. so she votes yes. and she knows that haymitch would never want a revenge hunger games but also hopes that he knows she wouldn't either and so figure out that she has another plan. "let's see how like me haymitch really is" - also why he explicitly says he's with HER, not that he supports the Game. the movie even spells it out even further with her re-stating "i get to kill snow" before voting yes. sure we don't get to see the train of thought because that would ruin the element of suprise but like, that katniss would never vote yes is the WHOLE POINT also peeta haters can come fight me i will literally defend him to my dying day. ms suzanne collins literally spells out for us why he is right for katniss and also hijacked josh hutcherson fighting against his restraints in that chair has been haunting me since 2014 give the man an oscar. ok rant over but truly did mockingjay haters and me even read the same book
"there was no hunger games in this one it was so boring" do you all know who you sound like??? do you?????

Rereading this made me realise how much of its nuance was lost on me as a teenager. This may be the most relevant of the whole trilogy, I love this series so much

Mockingjay is a little bit more slow moving than the Hunger Games and Catching Fire. It is still very good though and does wrap up the trilogy in a complete and well done way. Collins is a genius.
