As I was reading this book, I have decided to give this a 4 star, but the last 40 pages hit me with the emotional damage level of a truck 😩 which made me decide to bump it up .25 stars. Honestly, the early pages of the book dragged out for me. It was so depressing reading about how Katniss is being used by both the Capitol and the rebels. Her trauma was a lot to take in, but was a perfect depiction of PTSD - surviving the Hunger Games Twice is no easy feat and does not come without repercussions to her mental health. Got bored by the constant filming of propos during like 70% of the book. And can I say that I hated *SPOILER ALERT* Peeta's hijacking/amnesia plot??? God, cut these kids some slack please 😭 I also disliked Katniss and her mixed signals, she was so torn between Peeta and Gale, but at the same time she was so capricious about their feelings? Girl got me confused as well lol, she kept stringing them along and even got them discussing "which of the two of them she would choose" like??? At that point she deserves Gale lol I still stand by Haymitch's assessment that Katniss doesn't deserve Peeta.
Anyway, the last 40 pages has the emotional impact and adrenaline rush I was looking for from the rest of the book. It was the only reason why I bumped my rating up. I still enjoyed reading it, but I would say this book is my least favorite in the trilogy. The end was pretty impactful to me. Overall, it was a decent end to a great trilogy.

Mockingjay is just heartbreak after heartbreak & many tears were shed.
i am never getting over that ending. (🥴🤬😖🙂)
the hunger games trilogy is absolutely iconic and i 10000% get it now.
“…because something is significantly wrong with a creature that sacrifices its children’s lives to settle its differences. You can spin it in anyway you like….. but in the end, who does it benefit? No one. The truth is, it benefits no one to live in a world where these things happen.”
isn’t it terrifying how many parallels there are to our modern world in this trilogy?

This is definitely my least favorite book in the hunger games canon. I find it hard to focus on reading about war, but it is still overall a good read. I had listened to this book on audio about two years ago and I forgot a lot of the details so it was nice to revisit this along with the rest of the series.
I find the ending really sweet even though it is sad
