i don’t have words to explain how much i loved this book. alvarez's words always leave me craving more, an urge to learn and understand the history de mi isla querida. this book ignited a desire to unravel the forgotten stories that are hidden in the shadows of Dominican history. 

if i could give this book all the stars in the sky, i would.

Interesting enough to finish, but on the edge of being too slow. Read in Spanish, so the slowness was kind of helpful in that regard.

This took awhile to get started. I was about a third of the way through, before the story started to go anywhere. I feel like for such a short book (240 pages) that fact that it took so long to get started felt even more painful and made me very apprehensive if the book would be worth it. It also felt like the ends could be tied together better. Definitely had some interest thoughts on the lives and tellings of stories.
