It's America; and abortions are illegal, in-vitro fertilization is illegal, and only heterosexual couples can adopt children. Five women in a small fishing town each experience the devastating effect of these laws as they try to navigate life.

The writing style is choppy and fragmented; but if you can get over that, the story is very captivating.

“She couldn’t believe the Personhood Amendment had become real with all these citizens so against it. Which (the disbelief) was stupid. She knew - it was her job as a history of teacher to know - how many horrors are legitimated in public daylight, against the will of most of the people.”

I was reading this when Roe vs. Wade was overturned.

If you like being completely enraged while reading, pick this one up.
challenging sad tense

A story that sounds too similar to current issues in many countries. The story itself is good. I wish it went a little deeper into the griminess and darkness of the issues. Overall it was good, narrators did a good job as well.

Upon my second reading, I have to admit my initial review judged it too harshly. Of course this book has its flaws, which book doesn't? However, the descriptive prose and interweaving of 5 stories made it worth the read

I can already tell that this is going to be a book that I think about for a very long time. Emily from Possibly Lit has a full spoiler free review of this book on her channel that I would recommend you watch as I will never be able to express my feelings towards this book as eloquently as she does.
