It had been years since I read the first 3 books, and the reason I picked the 4th one up so early this year was because I remember enjoying the others  ... and I thought this was the final book.
I have made a gross error... there are 10 in total! Oh dear. I found audiobooks through YouTube that I'll get through the rest with, should I choose to continue on.

At page 16, it had been a while since I picked it up, so I found a YouTube audibook and stuck this on to get into the opening chapters. (You can find it here: https://youtu.be/K_KEgiT2XEA). This really helped because the pronunciations was helpful to hear and it sort of got me realising that it was set in some period of Ireland, although it never really clarified that until the terminology section at the end.

It was interesting to learn a little about the different kinds of magic but I wanted more breaking of the gender norms in the magic.
I would have loved to get to know more about Bram. He had a sweet soul and a whimsical affinity with animals.

There were so many times where I was getting used to a character only for tragedy and deception to befall. It really pulled my mind this way and that.

The story was a solid quest narration and felt like a mode sturdy predecessor of The Demon Thieves by Sally Green.

This shot from okay 3 star to a really enjoyable 4 star by the end.

Interesting origin story of the main villain of the series. Really nicely ties in with the previous parts with a new set of characters. Perfectly written prequel i would say.
