sadly, this volume is a disappointing read for me. id stumbled upon some akhmatova poems in the past and liked them enough to check this one out, but perhaps this just isnt for me. some of the poems are visceral and resonate on a very deep level, but the craft and msg of most others elude me. ofc akhmatova's merit isnt diminished by my personal inability to construe her works by any means, but this volume simply isnt for me, i think.

An excellent collection of poems. I had never heard of Akhmatova before and learning about the period of her life along with these poems helped show the struggle that poets, even ones without explicit political leanings, have in oppressive regimes.

Beautiful. She was top on my list of poets to read this year, but for some reason I ended up reading her at the end of the year. Definitely a poet I will be coming back to.
