Lie to Me

J.T. Ellison

3.62 AVERAGE

After not having read a book for nearly a year and a half, this was a great one to get me back into the game. As a big fan of gone girl, this one did not disappoint. I had some theories about how it would end, but I wasn’t close! Good, fast, entertaining read.

Major kudos to my sis, @basicbsguide for providing me with such great suggestions!!

Content warning: death of a child, domestic abuse, indirect descriptions of sexual assault

Very Gone Girl-esque. I had some significant problems with the ending of this
Spoiler like how their marriage was fine and everything was forgiven and we were supposed to just ignore the fact that he BROKE HER NOSE
and I think there were some inconsistencies between what we were told initially and what we were supposed to accept at the end, but the whole unreliable narrator thing worked well here and it was a fun read.

I think 3 stars might be generous because there were several unresolved plot points, a ‘wha?’ Ending, and some ridiculous twists, but it was a page turner so 2 1/2 stars I guess.

A thrilling thriller.
I genuinely did not see anything that happened coming. Loved the character development.

The book starts off almost like Gone Girl and it pulls me in immediately. Ethan’s part is fantastic and has me hooked. Then Sutton’s part came along and it was cringe worthy the entire way down. The ending felt rushed and the twist was mediocre. It was fun to read though.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once you think you have the "lies" figured out, the story twists in a different direction.

Goes by extremely quick and it had plenty of dark elements to it, but I do think it can be pretty tropy sometimes. Going off the same formula that worked in Gone Girl and recycling it without adding that much to it. Definitely not bad and even good for someone to read it, just to get their feet wet when it comes to crime fiction. For me it's just okay.
