This sapphic enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, high school sports YA romance between a basketball player and a cheerleader is a fun read. The audiobook narrator is very good, and the pace is solid and enjoyable throughout. It touches on the grief and loss of identity that comes with breakups, and the ways that we shape our identity after the losses of people we loved.

I feel conflicted about the entire premise, because it felt like a forced outing to me and that shaped a lot of my reading experience.
How much choice do you really have if the other option is not having enough money to fix your car and needing to give up on your dreams for college? How does that feel like equal ground to make decisions without being forced?
As a result, it was hard for me to get into the story and feel invested in the romance.

I also struggled to really like Scottie, and I feel like Irene is really out of her league. Scottie is frequently selfish, unkind, ignorant and unpleasant to Irene. Irene, on the other hand, is talented, smart and ultimately very loyal to those around her. It was hard not to feel like she could do better.

All in all, however, it was a fun read if the above mentioned tropes and genres are a favourite of yours!

I came into this book hoping for a cheesy high school style romance, and most of that expectation was satisfyingly met! Maybe it’s just my outlook but I honestly felt so annoyed and frustrated with Scotty (Scottie?) for a majority of this listen, she was a hard to enjoy character for the most part for me and I would have enjoyed more if this perhaps was from Irene’s perspective 🩷 otherwise enjoyed for what it was!

I’m a sucker for cheesy teen rom-coms so this was fun and cute. I loved the diverse group of friends, and the lessons learned along the way within each relationship. Irene was a piece of work, but you come to understand why she’s so uptight about her responsibilities. Scottie just needed to learn to love and respect herself instead of putting so much faith into a person who didn’t have the same for her in return. The grace that was given on both sides was very mature for what I’d expect from a teenager. I loved it

Loved the diversity! Very cute F/F sports romance for the YA audience. I love that this is an age-appropriate YA, not a YA written for an adult audience. Parts of this are super over-the-top, mainly the naming convention, but the author did intend it that way and says so in the authors note at the end. Even so, it was so cheesy sometimes I rolled my eyes. I really loved the supportive families that both main characters were surrounded by.

This is such an amazing, cute, queer romcom! I loved it so much. Even though it‘s a bit goofy and funny, the characters are very relatable and the book also touches on some deeper topics like self worth, internalized homophobia and emotional growth. It also handles the different sides of a toxic relationship really well.

👌 Fake Dating
🫶 Enemies to Lovers
🎀Cheerleader x 🏀 Basketball Player

This book was such a cliché but in such a good way.  I loved the characters and friendships in this book so much.  Irene and Honey-Belle though were my favorite characters.

The fake dating trope with a lovely dash of enemies to lovers made it even better.  The banter between Scottie and Irene was always amusing.

This is a cute lighthearted read that deals with getting over past relationships and doing things because you want to, and not because you have something to prove.  It was lovely!
