An important political book with detailed analysis on British involvement in world war two. A powerful source of inspiration for writing however much more focused on the politics of Britain than philosophy of writing. I don’t agree that all works have to have political meaning & I think unconsciously we all project the context of our time but I also believe in creating for the sake of creating.

Good book , but the title is a misleading.
The book starts with "Why i write " which is only 7 pages long .
The main part of the book is : "The Lion and the Unicorn: Socialism and the English Genius" which consists out of 53 pages out of the total of 85 pages of which are 8 not part of the essays .
So out of the essays it's 70% about "The Lion and the Unicorn" and mere 9% about "Why I write.

So I don’t really have any interest in Orwells’s novels but I think I’ll definitely read more of his essays, they’re pretty interesting and insightful.
