Sadly I didn't like this as much as I wanted. I know this wasn't aimed at my demographic, but I really enjoy watching children's movies (Disney, Dreamworks, Studio Ghibli etc.), and the odd middle grade book here and there. Maybe I would've enjoyed it more if I had grown up with the film, similar to when I recently read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but on it's own this book was lacking a bit, I do think that there are plenty of children, and even adults, who will enjoy this, I guess I just am not one of them. I am interested in giving the movie a watch, and who knows, maybe I'll really like that version.

especially after the main character becomes a mouse, and for some reason is okay with this. I also thought his reaction to the idea that his grandmother and him would likely die at the same time (because of his drastically shortened lifespan once he became a mouse) was kind of weird, but maybe that's just me.hannechr90's review

Loved this book. Me and my sister listened to the audiobook multiple times as children.

When I saw there was a movie adaptation starring Anne Hathaway, I immediately knew I just had to reread this old childhood favorite of mine, and I'm so happy I did. This is a fun children's story about witches who LOATHE children and who are in every country on a mission to rid the world of them. And a boy and his grandma, who in turn, end up ridding the world of the witches after the boy is turned into a mouse.
10/10 for the absurdity, originality, and the illustrations. (seriously, the illustrations are amazing, and made me feel so nostalgic for my childhood.)
In fairy-tales, witches always wear silly black hats and black cloaks, and they ride on broomsticks.
But this is not a fairy-tale. This is about REAL WITCHES.

Scared the crap out of me when I first read it. I was in the 4th grade. Then (I think) I saw the movie once on TV when I was in 2nd grade of Junior high school, and I'm still scared.
