This was such a fun prequel- able to stand alone and weave nicely with the lore of the six crimson cranes series. It was also slightly tragic, knowing that Channi would not have a happy ending. I also loved how much of a class adventure/hero’s journey this was. I kept forgetting it happened within the span of a few weeks.
But overall a fun but emotional reading experience and another reason I will read anything Elizabeth Lim writes.

πŸ’ My initial thoughts
This was a fantasy that easily drew me in, the world building, the character building all done so beautifully.

πŸ’ Plot
The Plot for the book is in Channi's POV as she tries to change the Curse bestowed on her and Vanna by Angma. There's heartbreak and hope throughout the story.

πŸ’ Characters
I really love Channi and Ukars unique relationship and the fact she's regarded as 'lady white snake'
Vanna is someone who puts others first despite what she wants with life and who she wants to become herself.
Angma is a very misunderstood demon as is Hokzuh, altho I have a very soft spot for him.

πŸ’ Book Information
This can be read as a  Standalone altho it's the prequel to The Six Crimson Cranes.

 HEA ending sort of πŸ€”

πŸ’ Overall wrap up.
This was a fantastic fantasy read. I could picture everything perfectly. However it just didn't end the way I wanted ?!
The ending was good just not the way I wanted it to end πŸ˜…
The characters are fantastic and easily able to dislike the villains.

πŸ’ Recommend
I'd recommend this to all YA fantasy fans.

πŸ’ Favourite Quote.
"So violent Channi. I can see we're going to be good friends"

πŸ’ Favourite Chapter.
 Chapter 17

πŸ’ Summed up in one Sentence
Can curses be rewritten, when one must fall.

I really enjoyed the books before this, and I like a radient curse too, but it's pace was slow and some parts were dragged out. I enjoyed the story but I wasn't hooked in to reading the way I like to be, meaning it took me a long time to dredge through the entire story
