Better than the first

I was going to give this 4 stars until the last page and a half hahaha iykyk

My biggest complaint with the book is the fact that every pairing off is an unlikely pairing to the nth degree, meaning the majority of conversations in the book are unpleasant ones where both parties are annoyed or angry. This got a bit old towards the end. Gideon and Nico were the best part of the book for me. Tristan and Nico’s plot as well.
The Belen plot was kind of a forced plot to me.

I really liked the first book, so I hate to say that this book was a disappointment. I don't think anything happened in the book. Where was the plot? This doesn't make me want to read the next book.

I'm starting to get attached to these characters, because most of them are so interesting and three-dimensional. However, I wish the plot had been more engaging. There were a few exciting moments, but since the emphasis seemed to be on the mind games and character development, I found the pacing a bit slow and found myself playing the audiobook at high speed to get to the next plot development sooner.

I feel like there's a negative connotation with 3 star reviews - but ultimately this one was just fine for me. Definitely not as good as the first, and the slow pacing really worked against it. I didn't necessarily dislike it, but it definitely feels superfluous and like it can't find its footing for the majority of the pages.

The multiple POVs are less successful in this entry, with the jumps around in time and different subplots definitely feeling a bit muddled at times. There's more of Reina and Callum which I appreciated - but both of their arcs feel a bit tangential to the main plot. By the end of the book you have so many different alliances and groupings that it's difficult to determine what each character is actually chasing after and what the actual conflict is in this series? I have no idea where the third book will go - not necessarily in a suspenseful way, but moreso in a "there is too much happening at once" way.

Despite all the sub-plots in this book, nothing much of substance really happens until the last quarter. It feels pretty monotonous after the first book until then, given the fairly limited setting and reprisal of similar conflicts from the first book. I enjoy these characters and the magic system a lot, but I'm hoping the third entry in this pivots to something more substantial to keep me engaged.

why was this one so boring
maybe the first one was also boring but i was excited and so i overlooked the boringness but this one was really just too slow. every reina pov was just boring. and irdc about parisa either so she’s kinda boring.

i feel like this series has so much potential as a concept but idk i don’t think the author is giving me everything that she could be giving. i feel like this series could have been much more interesting but it’s not :/

bit disappointing
