I didn't remember a damn thing from my first read through but that didn't stop me from thinking about this book a lot /10
Screaming crying throwing up (non-derogatory) /10
This book will definitely stay with you. It was emotionally intense. At times the main character seemed oddly mature for his age but seemed to fit in the context of the book. I kept on wondering what age group this book is geared towards.
While there are elements to this story that I really enjoyed (the relationship between Alex and his mom, Alex and Mr. Peterson, Alex and his own brain), I generally found the pacing too slow and plodding for me to really get into it. The overall themes of the book resonated - especially the idea of how we choose to live our lives and how we choose to end our lives - and the way they are acted out through Alex and Mr. Peterson’s relationship are sweet and engaging, but I felt like something was lacking overall.
ARC from Edelweiss. 3.5 stars
The start of the book really drew me in and I did like the book over all. The science and strange characters were good. I think I even admire Lex/Alex for his determination. But I would have liked to get to know Mr Peterson better, to really feel the relationship that developed between them.

Officially giving this 3.5 stars. I loved the characters, but felt that the story dragged a little in some places. I think the subject matter of the book is important though and not something that is talked about often. Alex Woods is a very unique main character and I absolutely loved him.

In recent years, I've read a few books with awkward narrators that have proven to be endearing and enjoyable. It took me a little longer to get into this one, but it definitely won me over. Highly intelligent, socially awkward Alex Woods in not your average teenager. He has no father or grandfather figure in his life and no one that he considers a friend (except his neurologist that he meets after being diagnosed epileptic, an astrophysicist that he meets after being hit by a meteor, and a librarian or two). He develops such a relationship and friendship with a neighbour. The story takes the reader on a journey examining issues such as morality, mortality, loyalty, and how far would you go for something you believe in. 4.5/5
