Very light and cheerful book would be excellent as a summer read

I wanted this to be like A Man Called Over, but it wasn't--at least not enough to make me love it like Ove. I had to take a break from it for awhile because it wasn't really going anywhere. Alex Woods over-narrates the story--which is admittedly consistent with his character--but it's a bit of a slog in places.
The ending was sweet enough, but it wouldn't rank in my "recommended reads".

So well written; I really felt I was inside Alex's head, and although I burned with injustice at his treatment at the hands of his bullies I admired the way he didn't. I liked the philosophical exploration of dying and death. Haven't read any Kurt Vonnegut but am now curious

The first half of this book felt like a chore. The second half was much better, and also interesting. The relationship between Alex and Mr Peterson was what made this worth reading. Contrary to the blurb, this is nothing like Vonnegut, but a Vonnegut fan may enjoy its references to his books and beliefs.

Very funny and beautiful book!

I really really loved this book. I thought it was beautiful, beautifully written and spot on. I think that it will be a great bookclub book. Lots to talk about!

Generally a solid book and a sombre theme described by an innocent logical teen which gives it a light tone.

This was almost a five for me. The voice of the main character, Alex, is so credible, heartfelt, and true, it made the whole book.
The book could be divided into two parts with totally different stories, and I liked the first better.
