I found the reader of this book was an improvement from book 1 (Witchmark). She manages to vary the pacing a bit. But I feel like it drives from plot point to plot point so quickly and without enough spaciousness to feel the relationships between the characters. I won’t be reading the rest of the series.

I found my dislike for some of the characters outweighed my interest in finding out what is happening in the world

I liked this more than the first book! I enjoyed the political intrigue and I think having more context for the world the characters live in felt much more immersive.

Slightly better than the first one, largely as the world develops more.
